Cane Cutters Cottage, Cannonvalley, Holiday in the Whitsundays
We found this little jewel of a cottage, 5 minutes from Airlie Beach, and 40 mins from Proserpine Airport. It is a lovely quiet place nested in a little pocket surrounded by gardens and a little remnant of rainforest. It belongs to a lovely Lady who gave us excellent tips to make the most of our stay, and who greeted us with a lovely little note (see above), showing her neat writing and a beautiful painting of Cane Cutters Cottage. She stroke me as a sharp business woman and a very caring person at the same time; very inspiring in her manners, a nice meeting.
Despite a meticulous cottage presentation, there was a message written by hand with a chalk on a small notes blackboard saying: 'All you need is Love, and a drawing of a flower'.
We were equipped with indispensable eggs weigher, brass turtle candle holder on the rear deck, and Marsh Flies catcher... after all, it is the tropics, and you are never alone! The beds were dressed with spotless cotton white linen, and the windows were dressed with old European Settlers traditional laces.
The rear deck was delightfully relaxing, as it should in Queensland ...
In the morning, we were greeted by wallabies hoping around, a tiny but distinctively long beak sunbird to poach nectar off the gigantic ginger plants on the rear deck. At night, it was time to go Tree Frog Hunting with the kids around the water tank. We even spotted a dingo one morning.
The cottage had wan some tourism awards for the beautiful restauration work inside. Despite its very compact size, it had belonged to a family of 7 (2 adults and 5 children), and the father had been a Sugar Cane Cutter.

There is a lovely place to swim, Cedar Creek Falls, a bit further after passing Lychees and Sugar Canes plantations along richly soiled red earth roads ... and spotting the occasional camel grazing with the cows in the fields.

Amazing sights in the Great Barrier Reef
20 Years After
On 22nd December 2011, we boarded a Seaplane from Airlie Beach as a surprise trip for my family. Ten minutes after, we passed the 74 Whitsunday islands, partly submerged ancient mountains, and we reached Australian Great Barrier Reef, the LARGEST LIVING THING on Earth, and we ...
... went to see its heart ...
Our Seaplane Shadow
Please note: this is no Photoshop Editing, this is How it is, this is How we saw it ... my own photos
Paul said : 'you take me to the nicest place on the Solar System'; the children were delighted, Oscar with the chance to board a Seaplane for the first time, and be given Pilot Cap for free at the end, and Josie in a Prime Position in the front.
It was an unforgettable sight, but, unfortunately, the waves were too high and we could not enter the waters to snorkel on this occasion
